This is my comparison of the Nespresso Evoluo vs VertuoLine machines.
I own two VertuoLine machines and spent half a day researching customers’ feedback on the Nespresso Evoluo to put together this review.
Should I buy a Nespresso Evoluo or VertuoLine Machine (Quick Verdict)?
You should only buy the Nespresso Evoluo if you plan to use the machine multiple times per day. Otherwise, you should purchase the Nespresso Vertuo Plus as this is the VertuoLine machine that offers the best value for money.
Ultimately, there is not too much difference between any of the VertuoLine machines and the Evoluo.
Therefore, value for money should be the main factor behind your purchasing decision.
The machine that offers the best value for money is the Nespresso Vertuo Plus.

The Nespresso Evoluo’s added water tank and pod storage capacity make it a marginally superior machine to all the VertuoLine machines.
That being said, I don’t think that the Evoluo’s added features justify its rather large cost compared to the VertuoLine machines.
You are most likely to benefit from the Evoluo’s additional features compared to VertuoLine machines if you use the machines multiple times per day.
I would only recommend purchasing the Nespresso Evoluo if this applies to you.

The differences between the Nespresso Evoluo and VertuoLine machines are:
- The Nespresso Evoluo has a larger pod storage capacity than the Nespresso VertuoLine of machines.
- The Nespresso Evoluo has a 14 oz larger reservoir than the VertuoLine machines.
- The Evoluo has a slightly larger footprint than the VertuoLine machines. This is to accommodate the larger reservoir and pod storage.
Difference in Cost
On the Nespresso website, the Evoluo is the same price as the Vertuo.
The Vertuo Plus and Vertuo Next are a fair bit cheaper than the Vertuo and Evoluo.
This is a bit confusing since, judging by their names, the latter two machines sound like upgrades on the Vertuo.
However, they actually are meant to be more compact, stripped-down iterations of the machine.
This relative simplicity is reflected in their cheaper price.
The only reason why the Evoluo is more expensive than VertuoLine machines is because of its larger reservoir and pod storage.
I would therefore only recommend purchasing the Evoluo if you are going to be using the machine so much that having to refill the reservoir and empty out the used pod container slightly less often will make a huge difference to your enjoyment of it.
Difference in Cost Winner: Nespresso VertuoLine
Difference in Ease of Use
The Evoluo’s larger reservoir and used pod holder compared to VertuoLine machines makes it the most “hands-off” Nespresso machine to use.
An additional 14 oz to the Evoluo’s reservoir means it can make ten more single espressos than VertuoLine machines before you need to refill its tank with water.
You can also make 5-7 more coffees with the Evoluo before you have to empty its used pod holder compared to VertuoLine machines.
This makes the Evoluo particularly suitable for office use where you want people to be able to make coffees with as little faff as possible.
Winner: Nespresso Evoluo
Difference in Quality of Coffee
Despite its name, the Nespresso Evoluo uses “Vertuoline technology” meaning that it makes coffees in the exact same way as VertuoLine machines.
The Evoluo also takes Vertuo pods. The coffees made by these two lines of machines are therefore identical.

The Evoluo does have a higher power rating than some of the Vertuo machines (the Vertuo Plus for example).
This only affects how quickly the machine heats up, rather than how it brews coffee.
Winner: Draw
Difference in Size and Aesthetics
The Nespresso Evoluo is around half an inch wider and deeper than the largest Vertuoline machine, the Nespresso Vertuo.
This is a really small difference.
I cannot imagine a situation where such a small difference in size would mean that the Evoluo would be able to fit on your countertop but a VertuoLine machine would not.
The Evoluo does have a metal finish on its drip tray and lid handle (the two parts of the machine that you will touch regularly).
This does give it a more expensive look than the VertuoLine machines.
Size and Aesthetics winner: Nespresso Evoluo (but only just)
Final Verdict
The Nespresso Evoluo is a more convenient machine to use than VertuoLine machines as you need to refill its reservoir and empty out its used pod container less often.
I would therefore recommend the Evoluo if you are going to be using the machine several times a day, or if you are buying it for office use.

If you will just use the machine once or twice a day at most, then I would recommend going for a more affordable VertuoLine machine.
The VertuoLine machine that offers you the best value for money is the Nespresso Vertuo Plus.
