Quick Answer: I’d recommend the Delonghi Dinamica Plus over the Gaggia Cadorna Prestige. The Dinamica Plus brews far better espresso than the Cadorna Prestige and can steam milk to three textures rather than just one.

The Delonghi Dinamica Plus and Gaggia Cadorna Prestige are both super-automatic espresso machines with automatic milk frothers. Just fill them up with whole coffee beans, milk, and water and you can make a latte with one button press.

In this comparison of the Delonghi Dinamica Plus vs Gaggia Cadorna Prestige, I’ll explain why I think the Delonghi Dinamica Plus more that justifies its larger price tag compared to the Gaggia Cadorna Prestige and why you should go for the Dinamica Plus if you are deciding between the two machines.

I’ll also offer you a more affordable alternative to the Gaggia Cadorna Prestige (namely the Delonghi Magnifica Evo) if the Dinamica Plus is out of your budget.

Let’s get started.

Should I Buy the Delonghi Dinamica Plus or the Gaggia Cadorna Prestige?

I’d recommend the Delonghi Dinamica Plus over the Gaggia Cadorna Prestige.

The Delonghi Dinamica Plus is a better espresso machine than the Gaggia Cadorna Prestige for three reasons:

  1. The Delonghi Dinamica Plus makes a better-tasting espresso than the Gaggia Cadorna Prestige because it uses a higher-quality basket in its brewing system.
  1. The Dinamica Plus steams milk to three textures compared to the Cadorna Prestige’s one texture. This gives you a lot more variety between your different milk drinks with the Dinamica Plus vs Cadorna Prestige.
  1. The Delonghi Dinamica Plus comes with a three-year warranty compared to the Gaggia Cadorna Prestige’s one-year warranty.

The Gaggia Cadorna Prestige’s only downside compared to the Delonghi Dinamica Plus is that the Dinamica Plus is significantly (about 1.5x) more expensive than the Cadorna Prestige.

If you are still leaning towards the Cadorna Prestige because of your budget, then I’d recommend the Delonghi Magnifica Evo instead of the Gaggia Cadorna Prestige.

The Delonghi Magnifica Evo makes a much better-tasting espresso than the Cadorna Prestige. It’s also a bit cheaper than the Cadorna Prestige (at the time of writing anyway).

The Magnifica Evo can only steam milk to one texture, but the Cadorna Prestige can also only steam milk to one texture so you’re not losing anything there.

I don’t recommend the Gaggia Cadorna Prestige as it makes too poor an espresso to justify its $1,000 price tag.

What Are the Differences Between the Delonghi Dinamica Plus and the Gaggia Cadorna Prestige?

The differences between the Delonghi Dinamica Plus and Gaggia Cadorna Prestige are (in order of importance):

  1. The Delonghi Dinamica Plus uses a higher-quality brew basket than the Gaggia Cadorna Prestige.
  1. The Delonghi Dinamica Plus can steam your milk to three textures. The Gaggia Cadorna Prestige can only steam your milk to one texture.
  1. The Delonghi Dinamica Plus has a three-year warranty. The Gaggia Cadorna Prestige only has a one-year warranty.
  1. The Delonghi Dinamica Plus requires you to adjust your drink’s milk volume manually. The Gaggia Cadorna Prestige automates this process.
  1. The Delonghi Dinamica Plus can be controlled by an app on your phone or tablet. The Gaggia Cadorna Prestige does not have this feature.
  1. The Delonghi Dinamica Plus has a touchscreen control panel. The Gaggia Cadorna Prestige has a button-controlled TFT screen control panel.

I’m now going to run through how these differences affect each machine’s performance and usability.

The Delonghi Dinamica Plus’s Higher Quality Brew Basket Means That it Makes a Better Espresso Than the Gaggia Cadorna Prestige

The Delonghi Dinamica Plus’s brew basket is metal and has hundreds of tiny holes in it.

The Gaggia Cadorna Prestige’s brew basket is plastic and has dozens of much larger holes in it.

These brew basket holes create resistance against your water when brewing.

The Gaggia Cadorna Prestige’s larger holes mean that water runs through your ground coffee puck too quickly for proper extraction to occur. The Delonghi Dinamica Plus’s espresso has a stronger flavor and better body because its basket’s holes are smaller.

This affects all drinks made by the two machines – all the Delonghi Dinamica Plus’s drinks are better than the Gaggia Cadorna Prestige’s.

Winner: Delonghi Dinamica Plus

The Delonghi Dinamica Plus’s Multiple Milk Textures Mean that There’s More Variety in its Milk Drinks Than the Gaggia Cadorna Prestige

The Delonghi Dinamica Plus can steam milk to three textures. You can change this texture by twisting a dial on top of the machine’s carafe lid.

The machine will recommend a texture for each of its milk drinks.

These milk textures are noticeably different from one another and mean that your cappuccino will be thick and bubbly and your latte will be smooth and silky.

The Gaggia Cadorna Prestige steams your milk to one texture meaning that each of its eight milk drinks only varies in their proportion of coffee to milk rather than in their texture.

Winner: Delonghi Dinamica Plus

The Delonghi Dinamica Plus’s Longer Warranty Helps Offset Its Additional Cost Compared to the Gaggia Cadorna Prestige

The Delonghi Dinamica Plus has a two-year warranty which rises to three years if you register the machine.

I have had to use this warranty on the Dinamica Plus (I broke the machine because I was playing around with its brewing unit to discover more about how it worked) and they replaced it within two days of me reporting the problem with no questions asked.

The Gaggia Cadorna Prestige just has a one-year warranty.

While I haven’t had to use the warranty on any of Gaggia’s products I did contact their customer support and found their customer support team to be noticeably slower than Delonghi.

More specifically I was left on hold for 20 mins by Gaggia but was live chatting to a Delonghi rep within a minute of making contact with them.

Winner: Delonghi Dinamica Plus

It’s Easier To Adjust Your Drink’s Milk Length With the Gaggia Cadorna Prestige Than With the Delonghi Dinamica Plus

The Gaggia Cadorna Prestige lets you bump up/down the amount of milk in your drink with one button press.

You need to put the machine in “customize mode” and then adjust your drink’s milk volume by eye with the Delonghi Dinamica Plus.

Although one could argue that the Dinamica Plus gives you more control over your milk quantity, I prefer the Gaggia Cadorna Prestige’s convenience.

Winner: Gaggia Cadorna Prestige

You Have the Option to Control The Delonghi Dinamica Plus with Your Phone. You Don’t Have this with the Gaggia Cadorna Prestige

The Delonghi app basically turns your phone into the machine’s control panel.

You can see a video of someone using it below (watch from 9:30 – 11:35):

The app connects to the machine via Bluetooth so you need to be by the machine to use it.

I don’t think that the addition of an app actually makes that big a difference to the Delonghi Dinamica Plus’s overall usability compared to the Gaggia Cadorna Prestige.

It’s a nice to have rather than a necessity.

Winner: Delonghi Dinamica Plus

The Gaggia Cadorna Prestige is Slightly Easier to Use than the Delonghi Dinamica Plus

The Gaggia Cadorna’s button-operated TFT screen is a bit easier to use than the Delonghi Dinamica Plus’s touch screen.

I find the Dinamica Plus’s touchscreen to be a bit jumpy and oversensitive. In particular, its menu options are too close together so it’s easy to press the wrong one. Fortunately, it’s also easy to cancel out of brewing a drink when this happens.

I think that smartphones have made us so used to really good quality touch screens that every other device with a touch screen feels hard to use in comparison.

So a button-controlled TFT screen is preferable to a touch screen.

Winner: Gaggia Cadorna Prestige

What do the Delonghi Dinamica Plus and Gaggia Cadorna Prestige Have in Common?

Here are the two machine’s features that I don’t think are significantly different enough to warrant favoring one machine over the other.

They Can Both Produce One Touch Milk Drinks

Both machines have automatic milk frothers meaning that all you need to do to make a latte/cappuccino (or any other milk drink) is fill the machine up with whole coffee beans, milk, and water and press a button.

No need to mess around with steaming milk manually with either machine.

They’re Similar in Size and Have the Same Amount of Cup Clearance.

The table below shows the two machine’s dimensions and maximum cup clearance:

Machine Name Dimensions (width x depth x height) Maximum cup clearance
Delonghi Dinamica Plus
9.3″ W x 16.9″ D 13.7″ H
5.8”
Gaggia Cadorna Prestige
10.2″ W x 17.3″ D x 14.9″ H
5.9”

I don’t think that there is enough of a size/clearance difference between the two machines for it to be a factor in deciding which one to buy.

Neither machine has enough clearance to accommodate most travel mugs.

They Both Have Multiple User Profiles

The Delonghi Dinamica Plus has three user profiles whereas the Gaggia Cadorna Prestige has four user profiles.

While this is a win for the Cadorna Plus, I think that three user profiles will be enough for most households, particularly when you consider how easy it is to customize your drinks in the first place.

They Have a Similar Selection of Menu Items

The main difference between the two machines’ available drinks is that the Delonghi Dinamica Plus has an “over-ice” coffee which the Gaggia Cadorna Prestige lacks.

As I said in my Delonghi Dinamica Plus review, I think that the machine’s iced coffee isn’t good. So I don’t think that its inclusion is a big advantage for the Dinamica Plus compared to the Cadorna Prestige.

Below is a table of specs for these two coffee machines:

Now that I’ve compared the differences between the Delonghi Dinamica Plus and Gaggia Cadorna Prestige I will assess the two machines against the following criteria:

  • Espresso quality
  • Milk steaming performance
  • Functionalities
  • User-friendliness
  • Design and durability
  • Value for money

Espresso Quality

The Delonghi Dinamica Plus makes better-tasting espresso than the Gaggia Cadorna Prestige due to its higher-quality brewing basket.

The Delonghi Dinamica Plus’s espresso has a more complex flavor and better body than the Gaggia Cadorna Prestige.

This increase in quality applies to all of the machine’s black coffee drinks.

Espresso Quality Winner: Delonghi Dinamica Plus

Milk Steaming Performance

The Delonghi Dinamica Plus steams milk to three textures which gives you far more variety in your milk drinks than the Cadorna Plus’s one milk texture.

The Cadorna Plus’s milk texture is indistinguishable from the Dinamica Plus’s middle texture.

Steaming milk to three textures makes a huge difference in how well the Dinamica Plus makes milk drinks.

You get a real variation in your different milk drinks, with a latte and a cappuccino having a very different texture.

You just don’t get this with the Gaggia Cadorna Plus. All its milk drinks are basically the same.

Milk Steaming Performance Winner: Delonghi Dinamica Plus

Functionalities

The Delonghi Dinamica Plus’s multiple milk textures mean that it can make a wider variety of drinks than the Gaggia Cadorna Prestige.

Although the two machines have very similar menus, there’s far more variation between each drink with the Delonghi Dinamica Plus vs Gaggia Cadorna Prestige.

This effectively means the Dinamica Plus has greater functionality than the Cadorna Prestige.

Functionalities Winner: Delonghi Dinamica Plus

User Friendliness

The Gaggia Cadorna Prestige is easier to use than the Delonghi Dinamica Plus because it has a better user interface and easier drink customizations.

I prefer the Cadorna Prestige’s button-operated control panel to the Dinamica Plus’s touch screen. The buttons are a bit more reliable than the touch screen.

The Cadorna Prestige also makes adjusting your drink’s milk volume much easier than the Dinamica Plus. You can just bump your drink’s milk volume up/down with one button press rather than having to measure out your milk volume manually.

User Friendliness Winner: Gaggia Cadorna Prestige

Design and Durability

Both machines have a similar level of build quality. The Delonghi Dinamica Plus’s warranty is much longer than the Gaggia Cadorna Prestige.

A three-year warranty feels justified for a $1,000 machine. I think Gaggia has been a bit stingy with their one-year warranty.

Both machines are similar in terms of build quality, and they both have a similar proportion of reviews that say that the product is defective (around 2%).

Value for Money Winner: Delonghi Dinamica Plus

Value For Money

The Delonghi Dinamica Plus more than justifies its extra cost compared to the Gaggia Cadorna Prestige.

The Delonghi Dinamica Plus justified its extra cost over the Gaggia Cadorna Prestige by:

  • Brewing better-tasting espresso
  • Offering far more variations in milk texture
  • Having a much longer warranty

Value for Money Winner: Delonghi Dinamica Plus

Should I Get the Gaggia Cadorna Prestige if I Only Want to Spend $1,000?

If your budget is capped at $1,000, I’d recommend the Delonghi Magnifica Evo over the Gaggia Cadorna Prestige.

The Delonghi Magnifica Evo makes better quality espresso than the Cadorna Prestige (its espresso is on par with the Delonghi Dinamica Plus).

The main difference between the Delonghi Magnifica Evo and Delonghi Dinamica Plus is that the Magnifica Evo only steams your milk to one texture. This is the same as the Gaggia Cadorna Prestige, so the Magnifica Evo’s better-tasting espresso makes it the superior machine.

I recommend the Delonghi Dinamica Plus over the Gaggia Cadorna Prestige.

The Dinamica Plus makes better-tasting espresso, and better-quality milk drinks and has a much longer warranty than the Gaggia Cadorna Prestige.

These three factors justify the Dinamica Plus’s extra cost compared to the Cadorna Prestige.
